Castle Ruins

This is another photo from 

Ha Ha Tonka State Park.

Ha Ha Tonka is a 

Native American Indian name

meaning "laughing waters."

While the castle ruins are fascinating,

the geology of the region 

is even more interesting.

Between where I stood to take this photo 

and the castle ruins off on the far cliff,

there is a deep ravine.

At the bottom of the ravine 

is the spring I posted

a photo of yesterday. 

At one time, 

the area where the ravine is now

was a massive cave system.

Sometime, before people came along here,

the cave roof collapsed, 

leaving a large sink hole.

It's a beautiful area and worth a visit

if traveling through Missouri.

Ha Ha Tonka State Park

We recently visited Ha Ha Tonka State Park 

near Camdenton, Missouri.

I enjoyed many areas of this park.

One of my favorites was this natural spring,

with millions of gallons of water 

flowing out of the rocks daily.

The water comes out fairly warm so the area

is filled with live critters year round. 

The area was very beautiful.

It was in this area that I took 

the previous photo

of all the turtles on the log. 

There were

hundreds of turtles in this 

warm water

and basking in the sun 

on the day we visited.
