Frosty Branches
I like contrast in photos.
It makes things stand out.
This is a perfect example of that.
The vivid blue sky makes
the frosty branches,
that are being hit by sunlight,
jump out out and say,
"Look at me!"

Indigo Bunting
I captured a photo of what
I believe is an indigo bunting
at Ledges State Park
during the summer of 2012.
I had never seen one,
except in photographs,
until that very day.
I was just lucky enough to get
the wonderfully-colored
little guy to sit still long enough
to snap a few photos.

Petals on Brown-Eyed Susans
If you go through any of the photos
on my blog, you'll see a recurring theme:
flowers, particularly brown-eyed Susans.
I've come across meadows
full of these flowers
on several different occasions
and think they're gorgeous.
I love them from far-away,
with the sky behind them,
and I love them close-up,
where you can see the finer details.

Long's Homestead Barn
The grand old barns scattered
across Iowa's landscape
are slowly going by the wayside.
Many of the wonderful old barns,
such as this one that once
stood proudly north of Madrid,
are falling down.
We're losing these great
works of art,
one by one,
to time and the weather.
The best I can do is
preserve them with photography.

Flower Close-up
“I only went out for a walk
and finally concluded
to stay out till sundown,
for going out,
I found,
was really going in.”
